SKENOGRAFIJA KAO TEHNIKA VIZUALNE INTERPRETACIJE POEZIJE / SCANOGRAPHY AS A TECNIQUE OF VISUAL INTERPRETATION OF POETRY

Dora Bosner 2022

Master thesis project. Scanography is used as a technique for the visual interpretation of poetry. Interpretation of art is a subjective experience. Scanography enables the creation of a wide range of different images, which is ideal for the visualization of numerous text works by various authors and topics.

The project aims to create a series of visual interpretations of poems. I believe that visualizing a text, especially an artistic text such as poetry, can enrich the experience of reading, analyzing, understanding, and identifying with what is written.

Scanograms created on the same machine can be very different from each other due to the very nature of the machine and all the parameters that go into the appearance of the final product. This wide spectrum of possibilities was the main reason why this particular technique was ideal for this project. The idea is that each work is specific enough to be clearly connected to each poem, but also open enough for interpretation, which is certainly not the same for every reader and observer. I believe that there is no "correct answer" in the interpretation of poetry or visuals. Analyzing, understanding, and interpreting poetry and visual art is often a very personal experience that depends on a number of factors that cannot be objective and cannot be measured by a scientific method. The scanograms serve as a visual representation of what is written and a personal interpretation of the text.
