Fragmenti koji ostaju / Fragments that remain

Vito Hordov & Dora Bosner

2022

A photography project made for CROCAD-22, Croatian congress on Alzheimer's disease with international participation.

The project has its own logical course of fragmented portraits that show the true essence and nature of the disease itself. Through the body as a landscape that, like every natural landscape, tells its story about life, duration, battles, victories and defeats, scars, hopes, faith... And some kind of almost transcendental beauty. The project as a whole tells a story of the severity of the disease itself, but just as powerfully shows the fragments that remain. Fragments that can still evoke the whole person. Fragments in which there is still life, joy, hope, expectations, flashes of beauty and elegance...the desire to live.

The project consists of fragmented portraits of the patients, the details of their bodies that tell us the stories of their lives, and moments that could not be planned even if we wanted them to be. The project tells the full story of the disease - sadness, tragedy, shock, joy, safety, laughter, friendships, full lives lived, and everything that remains even when a lot is taken away by the disease.

The entire project was carried out in the Ugljan Psychiatric Hospital, at the Department for dementia, elderly psychiatry age, and palliative care of the mentally ill, with the permission of the patient's families and guardians.

The project was exhibited 3 times so far, and is currently at it's permanent home in the Ugljan Psychiatric Hospital.
